Weedon Island Trails

There are certain places where I love to run. Weedon Island Preserve is one of them. It's far enough away now that I don't often get to run there. Plus they don't allow dogs.

Hubby and I decided to run there yesterday for about an hour. He knows the trails, luckily, because I would get extremely lost without him. The trail run is hubby's favorite type. I also love trail running. It's like an adventure. And Weedon is really pretty.

My pace is much slower than hubby's, so he decided to make it more challenging for the first two miles. He filled a bag with forty pounds of sand. Then he put that bag in a backpack. Then he put that backpack on his back.


Seriously, there is a 40 pound sandbag in his pack!

Yes, hubby is hardcore. Those who know him will not be surprised by this. Me, on the other hand? I can barely carry myself during a run. So the first two miles, we were at my pace, but hubby kept up like a champ. And even sped up as we got back to the car where he dropped off his pack.


Ready to get back on the trail for another four point five miles

Friday cooled down, leading into a cold weekend. Which was great because I got to wear my full-length compression pants. LOVE THEM! That and my Calvary Chapel Running Team shirt kept my temp regulated. I felt comfortable almost the entire time. Near the very end, I tied the long-sleeved shirt around my waist and my t-shirt style Dri-fit was enough to keep me warm.

We ended up going for about an hour and ten minutes. Hubby used Mapmyrun.com to calculate the distance because I hadn't brought my Nike+ sensor. We went about 6 1/2 miles averaging 10 minute miles. That's so awesome for me. I felt it, too. Hubby was "driving" us, as he called it. I can't chat much in that case, but I could enjoy the scenery.

  3. Your husband IS hardcore. I'm like you - just dragging myself around is enough. I don't know how it's possible to run with all that weight bouncing on your back. (I hadn't proof-read my previous comment and it looked like I was illiterate)

    1. It was quite amazing to watch. It would never occur to me to add weight during a run. If someone offered me my own sand-filled bag, I would just laugh.
